Bitcoin vs. Political Power: The Cryptocurrency Revolution – Stefan Molyneux at TNW Conference

The Cryptocurrencies Revolution

Historically, politicians have always fought for the power to create money out of thin air, so they can increase their spending without having to directly increase taxes. The staggering growth of political power throughout the twentieth century,  was largely made possible by replacing money limited by gold with paper currencies. These can be printed at will by government-controlled banks, unlike cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrencies are the first self-limiting monetary systems in the history of mankind, and could be our greatest chance to check the growth of political power since the Magna Carta. Join Stefan Molyneux, the host of Freedomain Radio as he reveals the hidden political and military power of government currencies. He also shows how cryptocurrencies could be greatest revolution in human history, and the foundation of a truly free and prosperous planet.

  1. Those people getting up and walking out, someone shoulda thunder slapped them in the throat

  2. Creating money is monetary policy. Taxes, IRS, VAT and so forth is fiscal policy. Seriously Stefan…

  3. Throughout the speech I kept pressing escape to like the video and would find, no no, I just liked it. Oh man this is great I like what you said there, better like the video, esc, oh great it is already liked… repeat. Great speech

  4. Quotes Jesus, revises Jesus' words, walks away as if he blew up the building.
    That was quality.

  5. Brilliantly spoken. Great delivery. The audience doesn't seem to appreciate/understand the subject matter or the humor.

  6. The audio and subtitles got pretty messed up towards the end. Perhaps you could upload again?

  7. Bitcoin has no intrinsic value. That is its biggest fault conveniently skirted around by Stefan. And you need a computer and power and an electronic secure wallet to make it work which puts it out of reach by fifty percent of the world. It is no different to fiat, it relies of faith, it is subject to market conditions, the only difference is that it is limited and it is anonymous but so is cash. You can't pay your taxes with it but it can be stolen and lost, most retailers will not accept it, unless you are buying narcotics. It is fakery and illusion and will not be the path to peace promised by this man.

  8. Holy shit that was such an amazing speech. Now I know what to link to people when they ask me why Bitcoin is so important.

  9. I like the optimism here, but couldn't the state become a full blown version of I'm going to shoot you? They wouldn't be able to afford all the bullets granted, but I do wonder if that's enough to stop them.

  10. I'm thinking of starting a campaign to get Stefan into political office, who agrees?

  11. I loved at the end when Stefan giggled when he said "Jesus know how to handle the money lenders"

  12. When listening to your background, your like Peter Thiel, except not a billionaire.

  13. I think Onecoin is the next number one cryptocurrency, overtaking bitcoin. Having mined for over a few months now, I am cashing out real euros at the moment every week. Within a year the price of Onecoin has risen from under 0,5€ to 4,5€ today. Lots of people all around the world are picking up on this new trend and become member to mine the Onecoin before it’s all mined and divided. Thanks to a solid MLM construction, I think this phenomenon is so groundbreaking. Sign up on https://www.onecoin.eu/signup/Iseinen and take part in this rapid growing cryptocurrency ;)

  14. Bitcoin is amazing, and will greatly benefit mankind if not suppressed. Hopefully too many know about it now for it to ever be suppressed. On a free market, bitcoin will win.

  15. wow, the audience is really quiet during this presentation, they don´t even laugh at his jokes

  16. Really enjoyed this. Here's a question for whoever can answer it.

If a nation were to use solely a cryptocurrency, what is to stop a government from mining more bitcoins the same way they print fiat currency? It seems it would take more time and energy, but surely they have more computational power than the people. Doesn't it seem that the same problem would arise?

I know that after ~2140 no more bitcoins are to be mined, so maybe this question is invalid, but it seems that until then bitcoin still has a fiat nature to it.

  17. IMHO this is one of the most powerful talks Stef ever gave, a haymaker punch in the face of the status quo.

  18. Can't hold a bitcoin in your hand. Can hold gold. I can see gold, I can feel it, I can hold it. I'll just go on believing in gold.
Unless of course we find a mine of it like the diamonds in the deBeers co.

  19. !! Longue vie à Bitcoin !!

Fuck le pouvoir politique…Fuck la guerre ! >:(
    ————————————————————————-

    !! Long live Bitcoin!

Fuck political power… Fuck the war ! >:(

  20. Loved it!
Stefan, South Africa is in a unique position where 90% of the tax comes from 10% of the population that understand 100% how useless the government is because they do a fantastic job at regressing the country ever since the end of Apartheid. We now for the first time in many many generations are off the grid and supply our own electricity as the gov [email protected] that up. Same with private security companies to replace incompetent policing, private transport because public transport no longer exists, we are starting to move onto private water. There really is very little use if at all for government here. I am very pro active in politics locally (Cape Independence Party) and want to kill it off completely! I believe you might be able to help our cause of being the first nation to kill its government through a rebellion of its tax/fuel and I would love to have a chat or your advice on how you see me succeeding at pulling this off
Please let me know how we can open a line of communication as my last attempt was only responded with "call us" but I would need a number and suited time as I am calling from UTC+2

  21. I don't honestly think this is a good idea. This kind of reminds me of the tulip mania thing that brought about a huge collapse. Why can't libertarians just use gold coins like normal people? :/

  22. Bitcoin sounds like an interim solution and is much better than the scam we all have now. The real solution is to scrap ALL money. Currency wrecks creativity in human beings because it imposes a limit. If you want to see real progress, just support Open Source. Everyone wins with Open Source, and there's no competition Competition with other human beings is one of the biggest problems on this planet, and has been for millennium.

  23. Great talk exposing the problems of fiat money.  I don't see Bitcoin as the solution however.  Bitcoin is not a store of value.  It may be limited, but how many other digital currencies are also being created?  There is no limit to the quantity of money.  Currency redeemable in gold is the answer.  Bit coin is a trial balloon for the coming cashless society based on NWO controlled digital currency.  You think the almighty dollar is getting destroyed by accident?
